Installation Protection Program: Safeguarding Personnel Through Planning

The objective: The Assistant to the Secretary of Defense enlisted the Installation Protection Program (formerly Guardian) to define near- and long-term approaches for protecting Department of Defense (DoD) installations.

The method: The Tauri Group was brought in at the request of the government program manager for systems engineering support, ConOps development, and exercise planning.

The company lent its expertise to program analysis, development, and evaluation, including installation requirements and command and control. The Tauri Group personnel also were instrumental in the coordination between the DoD and civilian community that was key to the project, particularly for addressing enhanced protection concepts that impacted nearby civilian communities.

The results: The Tauri Group's study provides a baseline for chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear/explosive (CBRNE) detection, protection, and response capabilities to DoD installations. This helps ensure the protection of DoD personnel and their dependents, as well as enable consequence management capabilities at selected DoD sites and some nearby civilian communities.
